Ramadan Kareem

Ramadan Kareem!

Every year in the month of Ramadan, all Muslims fast from first light until sundown, abstaining from food and drink. Those who are sick, elderly, or on a journey, and women who are pregnant or nursing are exempted to break the fast and make up an equal number of days later in the year. If they are physically unable to do this, they must feed a needy person for every day missed.

The fasting during Ramadan is regarded principally as a method of self purification. By cutting oneself off from worldly comforts, even for a short time, a fasting person gains true sympathy with those who go hungry as well as growth in one's spiritual life.

The holy month of Ramadan unites all Muslims in fasting, worship and prayer. It is a time for contemplation, spirituality and brotherhood.

It maybe a very challenging month for others who are not used to this kind of norm but I have tried fasting and I realized that for you to survive, you need your strong devotion, beliefs and trust to Allah or to god that you are giving up everything for the holy one, that the deprivation is just part of the cleansing process, and you can really survive. Just believe!
