Madrid Ecstatic! Amsterdam In Agony!

A thunderous roar erupted across the Spanish capital and fans danced in the streets and chanted "Viva Espana!" as the country's first ever FIFA World Cup™ trophy sparked a nationwide fiesta. The centre of the capital was a sea of the red and gold national colours as Spain celebrated its agonising 1-0 extra-time win over the Netherlands on Sunday.

The deafening sounds of cheering, klazons, firecrackers and car horns rang out across the city as the FIFA World Cup's perennial underachievers won the trophy in their first appearance in the Final. In temperatures of 37 degrees Celsius (Fahrenheit), more than 150,000 supporters watched the match on massive screens in a giant fan park in a one-kilometre stretch of the city's main thoroughfare.
Others crammed into bars or stayed home for the match, which left the country paralysed Sunday evening. Many were wrapped in the Spanish flag, wore the red team shirts or red wigs, or had their faces painted red and gold. One young woman was disguised as an octopus, in tribute to Paul, the now famous clairvoyant cephalopod in Germany who predicted Spain's victory.
Thousands of fans had earlier poured into the capital from other parts of the country to soak up the atmosphere, many travelling all night and planning to leave the next morning after a night of revelry. More than 2,000 police officers were on duty in the capital in case of incidents, along with medical teams.
Almost all towns and cities throughout the country installed giant screens for people to watch the match. Even in Catalonia, a region with its own distinct culture and language, there was excitement. Authorities in the Catalan capital of Barcelona set up a giant outdoor fan park for the Final, where authorities said around 75,000 people watched the match. The crowd erupted with joy and waved Spanish flags, with many in tears at the historic victory.
Dutch despair
Meanwhile, silence fell on an Amsterdam square where about 180,000 football fans watched in disbelief on big screens. As the final whistle blew, some supporters rested their heads in their hands in defeat as the earlier festive atmosphere turned somber and a cacophony of vuvuzelas suddenly died down. Some cried, others sank down to the ground; many started leaving the square in grim silence directly after the 1-0 extra time defeat.
The normally tranquil Museumplein was earlier transformed into a sea of orange with people in T-shirts, wigs, hats, flags and banners in the colour of the national team. Some had painted their faces, others wore lion suits or tails after the national symbol. There were orange rabbit's ears, orange clogs, orange hair, inflatable orange crowns and orange viking helmets.
Amsterdam officials had earlier urged people to stop coming to the Dutch capital as the city centre and Museumplein, with a maximum capacity of 100,000 visitors, filled up three hours before the match even started.

Oracle Paul The Octopus Picks Spain Over Netherlands

I am excited! A certified-fanatic of football game now but what excites me more is that Oracle, Paul The Octopus picks Spain over the Netherlands for Monday's FIFA WORLD CUP 2010 grand finals. I am preparing for this day eventhough it's our move out date from our old apartment to our new place. We'll let's cross our fingers that Paul will not miss this time! However, Paul finds his nemesis, Mani, a Singaporean Parakeet who picked the Netherlands as the champion.

Viva Espana!

I was wide awake last night till early morning today. Is it jetlag? I don't know but after watching Twilight's Eclipse and surfing the net for almost 3 hours, sleep didn't visit me!

I watched the match of Paraguay and Spain and saw how tough Paraguay team is! Well, both teams were tough! They almost scored but only on its 83rd minutes, Mi favorito hermano, David Villa finally hit it! 0-1 in favor of Spain.

Now they are IN for the semis!

As usual, Uruguay, Spain, Germany and the Netherlands made it to the magic 4.

I hope Spain do good!

Viva David!

I am still in Brisbane, its cold here! I wanna go back to Singapore!

Bebe And The FIFA World Cup 2010 Fever

It's indeed getting hotter and hotter as the FIFA World cup is being held in South Africa and what a good way to capitalize on this big event by putting familiar brands on the map. Bebe is one of them, remember the SAFARI team for their ad campaign?

Kudos to Brazil for beating North Korea!

    FIFA World Cup Trophy Unveiled

In Louis Vuitton case that is!

French fashion house Louis Vuitton has unveiled an elegant leather-bound case that it produced to carry the trophy to South Africa on Tuesday.
This case has been unveiled in the presence of Patrick-Louis Vuitton, Yves Carcelle (CEO of Louis Vuitton), and also the supermodel Naomi Campbell.
From the tournament’s beginning in 1930, the World Cup trophy has always been transported in an armored metal case — largely for reasons of security.

They will produce another case for the 2014 World Cup.

Louis Vuitton And The FIFA World Cup 2010 Trophy

My hope to swap my 428 flight to Joburg-Cape Town seems a wild goose chase. The World Cup is starting in one week and nobody wants to exchange flights! Of course! Times like this, flights to South Africa will be a gem to giveaway right?

    Oh well what to do?

Aside from Ronaldo, Kaka and Beckham, something to look forward is the trophy of the much anticipated game. A golden metal needs the best case for keeps right? So when FIFA needed a trophy case, who else would they turn to, but Louis Vuitton?

A one-of-a-kind carrying case hand-made in the Louis Vuitton atelier in France, the case is measured to the exact specifications of the FIFA World Cup Trophy. The case is decorated with the Louis V monogram and features room to hold the gloves required by the Cup’s handlers.

In 1970, the Brazilians became the first nation to win three World Cups, and were awarded the Jules Rimet Trophy in perpetuity as the late Rimet had stipulated after the first World Cup tournament in 1930. The cup was later stolen, and never recovered. Today, decoy trophies and heavy security are used rigorously to deter thieves, but this case is kind of a dead giveaway, isn’t it?
